Jen, Marco and baby Zachary

Meet my friends Jen, Marco and their brand new baby Zachary. Baby Z was just nine days old when I visited this new family over the weekend in a suburb outside of D.C. It was amazing to spend some time with them and to witness just a little bit of what it's like to have a newborn in the house. I can't wait to travel back and see how big Zachee has gotten!

It's pretty amazing how fast this little guy went from chillin' to soundin' the alarm! :)

Soooo much soft dark hair!

A little man time.

And what trip to D.C. would be complete without a little Emily and Adam. Now with more photobomb!

Lightning - Arlington, VA

I just got home from a quick (as always) trip to Washington, D.C. I always love a chance to visit my friends Emily and Adam and this time I got to photograph a lovely wedding (more on that in a later post) too! The weather over the weekend was brutal and as many of you know a damaging storm blasted through the region knocking power out to many, many people, including us! Just after the power went out at Emily and Adam's and while it was momentarily fun to not have power, I ran window to window trying to capture a lightning shot (without a tripod!)

Here are a couple of spooky weather photos from the evening.

For the record, I did not turn these next two frames black and white! Crazy town!

Spring trip to Washington, D.C.

I once again ventured off to our nation's capital for some time with my bud Emily and a few adventures.

On Saturday, we made our way downtown to the Washington Mall for the annual kite festival. It's hard to see in these photos, but believe me when I tell you, there were hundreds and hundreds of kites flying. I think my favorite part of the festival was pointing out my new favorite kite every five minutes! :)

We also checked out the Old Post Office, taking two elevators and 130 steps to the very top of the bell tower.

Absolutely worth the effort to see this view!

I wanted to travel to D.C. this spring in hopes of catching a glimpse of the famous cherry blossoms trees in bloom. But due to the awesome early spring weather we've all enjoyed, they bloomed early! I may have missed the cherry blossoms (I'll get you next year, ya hear!) but I did come across an orchid exhibit at the botanical gardens.

Check out this cool flower, a powder puff!

But this, by far, was the highlight of the gardens for me. A pineapple!

What would a blog post about a great trip be without a photo of some yummy grub? Here's a photo from a place called Amsterdam, a build-it-yourself falafel sandwich.

And of course, my generous hosts, the newly married Emily and Adam!
